Across the Diocese of Davenport, pastors, parish staff and ministry leaders sometimes face workplace questions or situations that require guidance, resources and support. The Office of Human Resources and Risk Management is there to help them navigate those challenges so they can remain focused on serving their parishes and communities.
The Human Resources Department supports the mission of the Diocese by fostering a faith-filled, respectful and service-oriented workplace. Its work serves parishes, schools, clergy and diocesan ministries, with a focus on dignity, collaboration, justice and excellence. Much of that work happens when people need help with a situation they may not know how to navigate on their own. The department provides guidance and support to diocesan locations, helping employees and leaders understand processes, access resources and work through workplace concerns.
For one parish secretary, that support made a significant difference during a complicated Human Resources situation.
“When our parish had a complicated HR situation, the Office of Human Resources responded in a very timely manner and worked on the issue outside of working hours. They then patiently supported me throughout the situation. I do not know what I would have done without the office's guidance and support.”
That kind of personal support is an important part of the department's work. Along with responding to individual needs, Human Resources and Risk Management works to equip people across the diocese with the information and resources they need to carry out their responsibilities.
This year, the department enhanced HR support and Paylocity training opportunities and expanded New Pastor Orientation to better equip pastors for their leadership responsibilities. The office also introduced resources designed to make personnel and administrative processes easier for diocesan locations. These efforts are about more than policies and procedures. They are about helping people feel supported when they face a question, a challenge or an unfamiliar situation.
When parish leaders have someone to turn to, they do not have to navigate difficult situations alone. When employees have access to guidance and training, they are better equipped to carry out their responsibilities. And when the people who serve the Church are supported, they can give more of their attention to the people and ministries entrusted to them.
The impact of Human Resources and Risk Management can often be found in these individual moments of support, when a parish or employee knows there is someone ready to help.
This is how we support those who serve.
This is how we move forward…Together in Mission
