On June 25, 2024, His Holiness Pope Francis announced the appointment of Bishop-Elect Dennis G. Walsh from the Diocese of Toledo as the new Bishop for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Davenport, Iowa.
The Diocese of Davenport was established in 1881 and contains over 83,000 Catholics and 74 parishes throughout the southeast quarter of the state. Bishop Walsh was ordained and installed as the 10th Bishop of the Diocese of Davenport on September 27, 2024 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport.
O God, eternal shepherd of the faithful,
who tend your Church in countless ways
and rule over her in love,
grant, we pray, that Dennis, your servant,
whom you have set over your people,
may preside in the place of Christ
over the flock whose shepherd he is,
and be faithful as a teacher of doctrine,
a Priest of sacred worship
and as one who serves them by governing.
Through Christ our Lord.
